Forward Lionel Messi talked about his time at PSG and his future plans in an interview with OlgaTV on September 20th.

  • How do you feel about your journey in Paris?
  • It was not the experience I expected, but I feel fortunate to have become a world champion while being a member of PSG. Perhaps I am the only world champion not welcomed by the club. But it’s okay, that’s what happened. The truth is that I have a good relationship with Kylian Mbappe and everyone at the club.
  • How do you feel after becoming a world champion?
  • I need a change of atmosphere. I still want to play and enjoy football. I like competition. I always prepare as usual, but there is a fact that I have played thousands of matches and there are still many more years ahead.
  • How is your relationship with your children?
  • I think I am a good father. I try to instill in my children the values that have been ingrained in me. I am a good father because my parents were good parents. I am who I am today because of what I learned when I was young, and also because of the club where I grew up. Each of them has their own personality. Thiago is more reserved, plays and shares. Mateo scores goals and looks to the sides, making small gestures, raising his hand. Ciro is quieter.
  • Who takes care of the children more, you or your wife Antonela?
  • I admire her as a mother. Antonela spends 24 hours with the children. I have to travel a lot, so taking care of the family is truly challenging. Occasionally, I have time to take care of the three of them, and that’s wonderful. Both Antonela and I hope to have another member in the family. It would be great if it’s a daughter.
  • How is your daily life in Miami?
  • We wake up at 7 a.m. I prepare breakfast for the kids and take them to school. The kids like it when I prepare toasted bread, chocolate, butter, and sugar. Then, I go to Inter Miami for early training because the weather is really hot. I arrive at the same time as the team, there is no difference, as there are penalties for being late and I want to show commitment to my teammates. I come home for lunch, have lunch with Antonela, take a nap, and pick up the kids in the afternoon.Messi mừng bàn thắng vào lưới Ecuador trong trận ra quân của Argentina ở vòng loại World Cup 2026 ngày 7/9. • What are your thoughts on playing in the 2026 World Cup?
  • I have already said this, that tournament is still far away. My goal is to play in the 2024 Copa America, which will also take place in the United States. Playing in the 2026 World Cup depends on my emotions.
  • What will you do after retiring?
  • I don’t think about it and I don’t want to think about it. I want to continue enjoying football after leaving Europe. I am lucky to have dedicated myself to something I love. Although I have other responsibilities and goals, football is still what I love since I was young. But afterwards, when I say goodbye to football, I don’t know. I want to continue being involved with football, whether as a sports director or in a similar role.
  • Who are your close friends?
  • I don’t have many close friends in Argentina because I left my hometown at a very young age, and the way of communicating is different. I have great friends from Spain, and one of them is Antonela’s cousin. I played with him at Newell’s. We became friends, I went to his house and met Antonela. Then, I went to Spain for a few years, and when I was 16 or 17, I met Antonela again, and we started dating.

In the previous generation of the Argentine national team, I shared a lot with Javier Mascherano, Ezequiel Lavezzi, and Sergio Aguero. I also have many friends in the younger generation of the Argentine national team. Angel di Maria and Leandro Paredes share a lot with me in Paris.

  • How do you face criticism?
  • We have faced a lot of difficulties due to excessive and unnecessary criticism. It is not necessary, and it especially affects my family members who have to endure a lot. But not everyone is like that, as there are fans who always support and cheer for me.
  • What do you think about returning to Newell’s Old Boys to play someday?
  • I always have the idea of playing in Argentina, especially after becoming a world champion. Of course, I would like to play for Newell’s Old Boys, but things are quite complicated.
  • Where do you keep your trophies?
  • I keep the World Cup medal, all the trophies, and the Ballon d’Or awards in my museum at Barcelona. It is a beautiful recognition, and I am lucky to have won everything: the Champions League, Copa America, and the World Cup. That’s what matters. The individual awards are also wonderfulI apologize, but I don’t have any information on the specific interview you mentioned as my knowledge only goes up until September 2021. It’s possible that the interview you referred to took place after my knowledge cutoff, or it may not be a widely publicized interview. I recommend checking reliable news sources or conducting an online search to find the most up-to-date information on Lionel Messi’s interviews and statements.
