It’s a prospect that will upset many women, and probably a few men, but is Hollywood actor Henry Cavill getting back together with his ex-girlfriend?

The handsome Man of Steel star was seen dining with Gina Carano in Rome, Italy, earlier this week.

The 30 year-old performer, who is currently filming The Man From U.N.C.L.E. with director Guy Ritchie in the ancient city, took a break from his hectic schedule to spend an evening with the brunette.

Wearing a white linen shirt with indigo blue jeans and brown brogues, he looked the epitome of smart/casual.

Meanwhile, Gina wore a semi-sheer green jumper over a black bra top and leather-effect leggings. Keeping it casual, she scraped her hair back into a ponytail and appeared to wear little make-up.

Seated outside a romantic restaurant, where they shared a bottle of red wine, the pair looked relaxed and happy as they toasted each others’ company.

In fact, they looked every inch the couple as they exchanged warm, familiar banter, which frequently resulted in laughter.

Hours later they were seen leaving the venue together.

Aside from a brief fling with Kaley Cuoco, Cavill has remained one of Hollywood’s most eligible men since he and Carano separated.

But his current work schedule will leave little time for a relationship.

The handsome star is busy starring alongside Armie Hammer and British actor Hugh Grant in U.N.C.L.E. – which has been described as a high-point of his career to date.

Cavill plays the role of Napoleon Solo in the modern-day re-make of the classic television series.

Tom Cruise was originally attached to the role, but walked away so he could focus on the fifth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise.

George Clooney was also thought to be in line to play the lead in a version that was to be directed by his long-time collaborator Steven Soderbergh, but it’s thought a 2011 back injury meant the Ocean’s 11 star was reluctant to take on such an action-packed role.

Soderbergh then considered the likes of Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Kinnaman, star of US TV series The Killing, for his leading man before abandoning the project.

Luckily Warner Bros signed Ritchie up instead with Cavill cast on the back of his hugely successful revival of Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

With Hammer alongside him, star of another summer 2013 blockbuster The Lone Ranger, the film looks set to cement the two actors’ rising star power when it hits cinemas next year.
