While Five Nights At Freddy’s gave the franchise’s most confusing animatronic a cameo, the sequel needs to offer this same character a much bigger role. Five Nights At Freddy’s took its time making the transition from a hit video game to a big-screen horror movie. Although an adaptation of the indie game series was in Development Hell since 2014, it wasn’t until October 2023 that Five Nights At Freddy’s finally arrived. However, Five Nights At Freddy’s proved to be worth the wait for fans, earning over $270 million at the box office and quickly becoming 2023’s most financially successful horror movie.
This made a sequel inevitable, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was announced shortly after the first movie proved a huge hit. This was a big relief for franchise fans since there is a veritable deluge of Five Nights At Freddy’s lore for the sequels to address and adapt. For example, the elusive animatronic Golden Freddy (not to be mistaken for Freddy Fazbear) barely even appears in Five Nights At Freddy’s. Fortunately, the original movie’s success means that the sequel can now give Golden Freddy a bigger role, bringing one of the most mysterious characters from the games to life.
Golden Freddy Needs A Bigger Role In FNAF2 After Five Nights At Freddy’s Confusion
Golden Freddy does appear in Five Nights At Freddy’s, but the character only puts in a minor cameo. Confusingly, Abby refers to him as Freddy when he appears at her home to take her back to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza before the ending of Five Nights At Freddy’s. Golden Freddy is the highly damaged, yellow version of Freddy Fazbear that sits in the cab with Abby, only to disappear after he brings her back to the restaurant. Unlike the movie’s normal version of Freddy, Golden Freddy is missing an eye and has numerous exposed wires protruding from his badly broken animatronic suit.
While Five Nights At Freddy’s did technically feature Golden Freddy, the character’s brief cameo was more confusing than anything else. He didn’t get to play a major role in the action despite being a fan-favorite animatronic and, while one character does specify that he is “Not Freddy,” the significance of this moment was compromised by the scene’s brevity. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 must give Golden Freddy a bigger role and more to do to make up for this. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 could use Mike’s dreams to explain Golden Freddy’s backstory, thus justifying the character’s sequel role.
What Golden Freddy’s Role In Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Could Look Like
Since Golden Freddy is one of the franchise’s more mysterious and powerful antagonists, his role in Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 could reflect this. Now that William Afton has been defeated (at least temporarily), the series needs a major villain. Not only that but the other animatronics of Five Nights At Freddy’s were portrayed as surprisingly sympathetic, misunderstood characters in the original movie. In contrast, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 could depict Golden Freddy as a more unambiguously evil figure. This would give the Five Nights At Freddy’s sequel a new villain who might even go up against Freddy Fazbear.
