Chris Hemsworth has revealed how his new show, Limitless, has influenced his big career decision.
Whilst filming the docuseries, the Marvel star discovered he was at increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease after a genetic test found he had two copies of the gene APOE4.
Though Hemsworth hasn’t received a hard diagnosis of the condition, he did divulge that the news had led to him being more selective when choosing his next projects, revealing to Vanity Fair that he was “not enjoying what was right in front of me”.
“Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go: ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet’,” he said. “I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off.
“Since we finished the show, I’ve been completing the things I was already contracted to do. Now when I finish this tour this week, I’m going home and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife,” he continued.
The docuseries, which airs on Disney+, sees the actor combat ageing whilst discovering the full potential of the human body, with each episode mixing a personal journey with scientific breakthroughs.
Hemsworth, who revealed he wasn’t totally shocked by the revelation due to his grandfather’s battle with the same condition, said the show became more “poignant” for him as it developed.
“The show, which initially was an exploration of longevity… became even more relevant and important for me, even more poignant than I ever thought it would be,” he said. “It was a really good catalyst to dive into everything I needed to be doing in either the prevention front or the management front or however you want to classify it.”
